I thought he was trying to trick me into playing another Sokoban clone, but Zarba's Genetic Spaceship Miracle SHIPPU is actually an ingenious evolutionary shoot-em-up - your lego-block spacecraft starts as something tiny and mundane, but is (after building up enough energy) able to absorb oncoming baddies and crossbreed with them. It's left as an exercise to the gamer to determine the phenotypical similarities that signify a usefully viable crossbreed - get too cavalier about it, and your laser-spitting behemoth will suddenly revert to a pea-shooting runt.

Very good game idea; as much an evolutionary gardening and pattern-matching exercise as a pitched laser battle. It feels a lot like declaring war on the world of Dawkins' biomorphs. Comments? ]

Passing Frenzies: Thief II - BlogNomic - Kaleidoscope

 Friday  the Fifth

I've been using All Consuming to track my reading habits for a full year, now, which means that I can access a list that I've never been able to pin down before: all fifty books that I've read in the past year. Comments? ]
"They are liquid, semi-visible goliaths that rage through the streams and chunks of ordinary traffic, with the effervescent tendrils of mile-long tails whipping behind them like Chinese dragons."
Beautiful piece on Traffic Zoology, by MFDH. Driving on motorways in France, it was striking how neatly their toll gates sliced any emergent traffic patterns up, giving a visible driver-soothing endpoint to any traffic jams. [via Webb] Comments? ]

 Wednesday  the Third

In dreams; explaining to somebody the meaning of déjà vu, jamais vu, presque vu and an obvious fourth one, which was probably déjà rêvé, in retrospect. Comments? ]

 Tuesday  the Second

Chrissy's 26 Things, gathered during an afternoon in Lewes with fierce enthusiasm, have finally been dragged off the camera and uploaded. I only managed 1 Thing of any consequence; a wonderfully Keystone Kop transport police poster from Lewes rail station. Maybe I'll get the full haul during the next one. Comments? ]
Ravenous Road Haulage of Traal: "If you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you." Comments? ]
The spontaneous generation of Sokoban clones continues, and I am helpless; Ben suggested that a hybrid of Sokoban and Snake might be worthwhile - an unstoppable block-pushing snake proved to be entirely too annoying, though, so Snakoban is a warehouse keeper with a long green tail, instead. It'd probably be better with carefully designed levels rather than a random ongoing mess, and could use some proper graphics, but I hate Sokoban. I will not write any more Sokoban clones. I will not write any more Sokoban clones. Comments? ]
