The origins of Orange MC date from shortly after the time when [Rob Bunting]? departed York, arising from an email discussion list on what should happen next in web Crescent. Orange MC's general structure is modelled after the York/MCiOS style, and follows many of the innovations pioneered by Dan at MCiOS (such as permalinking, move preview, etc). It also features three other innovations: use of skins to allow the server to adopt various personas, sorting of games by different properties, and paged browsing of games.
Orange MC and its close cousin The Lockisseum are also notable because in November 2004 they were the first MC sites to suffer from spam postings, a dubious honour which seems likely to lead to further unwelcome innovations in the direction of user logins.
