Aethelbeorn is decened from a family of Saxon mercenaries that remained loyal to the British when hostilities started many years ago. He tends to the administrative needs of the Arthours lands, and is suprisingly well educated for a fighting man, something that isn't immediately obvious to look at him.
Aethelbeorn is a man with many enemies. Dispised by the British and hated by the Saxons, there are few that he calls friend. His family is virtually outcast amongst the British, both noble and otherwise. As a youth he soon learnt how to fight, and not much after that he learnt the value of diplomacy, because even he wasn't strong enough to battle all his enemies at once. Over time he learnt the power of words, and power that can stop a sword from ever being drawn, or turn it against on of your own enemies without its wielder ever understanding that they have been duped.
He is a deeply pragmatic man who's illusions have long since vanished. He doesn't care what people think of him because he already knows. He acts with integrity and honour, but he believes that most people are ill-disaplined and not worthy of the respect that he shows them. He has a lot of anger, and fights the war against the saxons not so much to defend the British, who he hates, but rather because he is sworn to do so and to relief his own fustrations upon his unfortunate enemies
