[edit] Religion and priestly magic

After the cataclysm, the gods would not hear people’s prayers. Some took to worshipping false idols, most turned away from the gods, and there was a great increase in interest in wizardry (which prior to the cataclysm had been something of a 'backwater', practicied to a high standard by only a few powerful warlocks). Some devout souls remained loyal to their gods, and in time the gods began to speak to them in whispers. Eventually, preistly magic returned, though the magic of wizards remains far more powerful.

Today, the following gods are commonly worshiped and have priests with magical abilities:

    • Chislev (considered to be a male by the lizard men)
    • Paladine (usually, though not always, through St Cuthbert of the Cudgel)
    • Takhisis (usually as Usa/Usa-Hiteth/Hiteth/Hiteh/Hith. Also, cults supposedly worshipping “Habbukuk” have been encountered in the past by the adventurers, but these have always been worshiping an evil deity that Schallat and Smith believe to be Usa in another form)
    • Mishakal (as Mislaxa the Brown)
    • Reorx
    • Hiddukel (through various orcish, gnollish, and goblinish demi-gods)
    • Kiri-Jolith

The remaining gods listed below are only rarely worshipped, at least in the lands that the Heroes of the Vale have travelled to.

[edit] Habbakuk, Fisher King

  • Habbakuk is Kiri-Jolith's younger twin. Habbakuk's influences are animal life, the sea, creation and passion. Note that the dog-faced god "Habbukuk" is nothing to do with Habbakuk, but rather is believed to be another aspect of Usa.
  • Main followers: Habbakuk is not widely worshipped post-cataclysm.

  • Main followers: Dwarves, gnomes, halflings, kinder.
"Reorx? All duty, discipline, and diligence. Good if you've got a bent sword you want straightened, but not really someone you'd want at a party."
Schallat

[edit] Chislev, the Beast

Scribe's note: The following information has been provided by Schallat, priest of Chislev. Chislev has many aspects, most of them worshiped by different races and cultures.

[edit] Chislev the Beast

This is the aspect in which elves worship her (They consider Chislev to be female.). In many ways this is Chislev's most impartial, neutral aspect. She rules over the beasts and wild places of the world, unconcerned about the comings and goings of the civilised world. Empire may rise and fall, but the grass will always grow.

[edit] Sheezlar the Father

This is Chislev's aspect as the father of the lizardfolk, both Bakali and Jaraksin. In this form Sheezlar is unprodictable, like his children. Sheezlar is concerned for the survival of his children, but considering that he gives spells to boths sides in the war an outsider might conclude that he takes a Darwinian outlook with regards to keeping them strong. No-one other then the lizardfolk are known to worship Sheezlar aspect.

[edit] Shivler the Free

This is the aspect that Schallat teaches to humans as they find it easier to understand and more relevant to themselves than the others. Shivler is a god of personel liberty and freedom, bringing relief from oppressive rulers. Shivler teaches that no one set of rules can ever cover every situation at a person or society may encounter. Instead, one must act in accordance to the indivuals conscience.

[edit] Chezlarn the Destroyer

Chezlarn is an angry, violent god who delights in rage and the unprodictable chaos of battle. He is not a diety of fine tactics, but rather bloodlust and wanton slaughter. The merciless priests of Chezlarn hunt down and kill their gods enemies by whatever means nessesary and help those bent on murderus vengence, regardless of whether it is justified or not. Oddly, these priests seem more than happy to execute the enemies of ANY aspect of chislev, even those most removed from their own 'philosophies'. Certain elves have been known to call Chezlarn ;'Chislev the Beastial'.

Schallat himself recognizes all aspects of his god, and preaches which ever is most appropriate to the audience at the time. He does, however, feel closet to Sheezlar the Father, but has often called upon Chezlarn when faced with the enemies of his god.

It was this recognition of all Chislevs aspects that first attracted Krath to Shallat's teachings, as Krath likewise follows all of the aspects. Unusually for a Bakali he feels more affinity to the Shivler aspect then the Sheezlar aspect, which is reflected in his lack of respect for authority figures, even the lizard-king.

  • Main followers: Bakali, Jarak Sinn.

[edit] Zivilyn, Tree of Life

  • Zivilyn influences wisdom. He is the tree of life, knowing what has happened and what will happen next.
  • Main followers: Humans, elves, goblins.

[edit] Shinare, Winged Victory

  • Completely unknown on Taladas.

[edit] Gods of Darkness

[edit] Takhisis, Queen of Darkness/Usa, Son of Night

  • Takhisis was Paladine's consort in the Age of Dreams, but she left him when things did not go to her liking. Patron of all that is evil or corrupt, Takhisis influences night, hatred, intrigue and chaos.

Main worshippers: Humans (as Usa), Yuan-ti (as Usa), evil creatures of all races.

"Contrary to popular belief, Takhisis does have a sense of humour. It's just that her idea of a punch line usually involves skining someone alive."
Schallat

[edit] Sargonnas, Dark Vengeance

  • Takhisis's brooding consort is an explosive personality who plots against her about as often as he works with her. Sargonnas influences vengeance, destruction, intrigue, volcanoes, fire and deserts.

Main worshippers: Humans, orcs.

[edit] Morgion, Black Wind

  • The god of disease, decay, plague, weakness and plotting is Morgion. He despises all that is healthy, attempting to destroy or corrupt them. Little known in post-catacylsm Taladas.

[edit] Chemosh, Lord of Death

  • Chemosh is the patron of all undead. Any such creatures are his minions, increasing his strength on Krynn. Chemosh influences ravagers, undead and people's nemeses. Some believe that Chemosh walks amongst the undead of The Chasm in Thenol.

Main worshippers: The sentient undead.

[edit] Zeboim, Darkling Sea

  • Zeboim is the patron goddess of all mariners. Those who slight her seldom see the shores again. The temperamental Zeboim influences the sea, storms, tempests, weather, undead sea races and jealousy. Little known in post-catacylsm Taladas.

[edit] Hiddukel, Prince of Lies

  • The god of evil business practice, damned spirits, slavery, greed and betrayal is Hiddukel. He trades in souls, and it is said that he could barter with Takhisis and come out ahead. Little known in post-catacylsm Taladas.
"Lying is easy. It's telling the truth thats hard to get away with."
Schallat

[edit] Wizardly magic

The gods of the moons are not worshipped on Taladas, but those who call themselves mages channel the magical energies of the three moons to cast their spells. The moons are as follows:

  • Solais the White
  • Lunais the Red
  • Angomais the Black (sometimes called Angomais the Unseen)

Each mage must wear the colour of his chosen moon in order to be able to cast spells. Some wizards employ the power of a second moon - for example, chaotic good wizards wear white robes with black trim and call upon the chaos of Angomais (in addition to calling upon Solais) when casting their spells.
