Dwarves have long military traditions, and thre troops tend to be highly trained and heavily armoured. The dwarves have many enemies to cope with, both above ground and below.

On the surface, their armies are often hampered by a lack of mobility. Still, they try to compensate for this through stoic endurance and very large war machines!

With their small numbers and slow breeding rate, dwarves try to avoid large scale conflict these days, but it isn't always possible. The dwarven armies of southern hosk last mobilised to oppose the minotaur invasion.

[edit] Shield Wall

The bulk of dwarven armies seen on the surface are composed of the shield wall - well trained warriors that are employed to hold a solid battle line against their foes. Although undramatic, these warriors are reliable and will take a lot of effort to shift.

[edit] Crossbowmen

With a severe lack of fast moving units, dwarven armies relly on long ranged missile attacks to counter swifter opposition. Dwarven crossbow men typically carry heavy crossbows to maximise the range at which they can strike back against the enemy.

[edit] Breakers

While the shieldwall is there to maintain the dwarven lines, the Breakers are used to smash the enemies ranks and destroy their formation. To help them in this role they carry greate axes.

Most Breakers like to use a war cry of some sort before closing with the enemy. Different holds and sometimes even units have their own. To further add to the effect, these dwarves often wear stylised helmets to make them more intimidating.

Dwarves live a long time, ans some of them see a lot of combat. These vetrans have been around for awhile and have seen most things the battle field has to throw at them. THey form the elite fighting arm of a stronghold.

[edit] Tunnel Fighters

As well as enemies above ground, the dwarves also have many below, some of which are far more dangerous. Tunnel fighters are trained to deal with these threats when they 'surface'.
