Laschfell occupies the northen region of Finrize, where it borders Balvase along the Manahey river. The climate is chilly with frequent rainfall and the land itself is heavily wooded.
[edit] History
Modern Laschfell formed from a conglomeration of tribes after the arrival of Kalchichi's armies in the south. The kobolds conquests sent many refuges into the north, bearing tails of reptails with terrible weapons that spat fire.
One of the many northen tribes, the Lashe, managed to aquire the services of a Kobold gunsmith via a sizable bribe, and used the power gained to persuade many of the other tribes to ally with them, and used this coalition to conquor the rest. In the process, they formed a country capable of slowing Kalchichi's advance.
[edit] Government
Laschfell is a Theocratic Democracy. All candidates for election must first be approved by the Council of Druids, who may bar any hopefull on grounds of insufficient loyalty to the faith or poor quality of character. The public then votes on which of the approved candidates will govern for the next 5 years.
[edit] Society
The majority of Laschfell's populance follows the druidic faith and believe in the Motherfield. This fact permeates many aspects of their social lives and attitudes. Most parts of the country are still very rural, with the cities being notably smaller than in other countires.
The government tends to rule with a light touch on social matters, allowing the local authorities to do pretty much as they please, as long as order is maintained. This can confuse foriegners, because laws will vary from on town to another.
While synthetic drugs are frowned upon, the locals are very tolerant of natural ones, and few laws exist to control them. The use of stimulants was traditional amongst warriors for many years, and sections of the military still make use of substances designed to enhance performance in battle,
[edit] Economics
The druidic faith demands respect for the environment, and this has lead to Laschfell adopting a highly rigid, planned economy. The government owns most of the lumber forests, and logging is well controlled. Industry is not allowed to expand to fast, and polution extremely fround upon. This means that the country is almost impenetrable to foriegn businesses.
This means that the local economy has not grown to become as large and powerful as it might otherwise have donee. As against that, it is very stable.
Ready availability of drugs means that there are plenty of people willing to smuggle them overseas. At the same time, the strict industrial laws has created a blackmarket for cheap imported goods that are not otherwise available.
