Legal Rights For The Undead!

Not just for the undead but for a lot of the 'must be evil' races. Are we going to say that Mind Flayers, Vampires and Werewolves have to be evil? Or can we have some fun by letting them be normal members of society (or at least some societies)? Let's face it, a Mind Flayer is going to look pretty damn sharp in Armani...--Alex 12:03, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I was actually thinking that they might be largely extinct! With cctv and national investigative agencies, it might be pretty hard for such things to hide.

I don't think there is much hope for vampires, except for them to get the hell out of dodge and find somewhere to hide. Something that exists by feeding off sentients being is never going to be popular. A few people may run "Save the Nosferatu" campaigns, but I think sympathy might be in short supply.

Lycanthropy on the othe hand is a disease, and only effects alignment after the first change. Perhaps drugs exists that can prevent the tranformation. Of course, they are still potentially dnagerous and infectious, and so would have to be registered, possibly even electronically tagged. They would be part of society, but not necesserily an equal part.

Something like that might work for other such creatures too. Except midflayers - those things are a race of sociopaths that consider all other things to be inferior. Considering what they do to other creatures I think that in the long run the only possible result would be genocidal war, regardless of who does their wardrobe! Andy 15:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

If we are going for a intergrated society this may efect the alienment of some of the evil racies that we know and love? Are they evil by nature or nurcher? as for undead (not just Vampires) this would genera a few quirks in the law. Like bring great uncle Tom back as a Zombie in order to avoid death jewties. Or what if uncle tom rose up as gast a few weeks after his will and test ament had been read. can he reclaim his stuff from his desendents. This would also genera a few twist to your living will resusatate, revive, rencanate, In the event of my undeath. you get the idea

Kind of where I was going with this. Somebody could put together a legal argument saying that the undead have as much right to exist as someone brought back by a Raise Dead spell. After all they both died and both came back, so wherein lies the difference? It all depends on whether the vampire has to kill to live, or if it can survive without murdering. If it has to kill then its days would be numbered, although CCTV relies on mirrors in its cameras, and a vampire without a reflection won't turn up allowing it an escape. If they can just bleed animals or survive on 'half-sucks' then vampires may make a useful contribution to society.

Of course not all these ideas have to be universally approved. There may be lands ruled over by liches where being undead is not a legal impediment. And if those lands were on top of something valuable like the world's largest oil supply, then other countries may have to accept the legal status of undead, at least from undead countries, in order to have diplomatic relations.

And I'm going to have to include a land where the Mind Flayers rule. Snazzy suits and tentacles is just too good an idea to ignore...--Alex 16:26, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
