The team was sent on an espionage mission to retrieval a valuable piece of technology that a rogue scientist, known as Dr. Cristian Crystal, had created. Crystal's current location was unknown, but the RAM authorities had one of his associates in prison, Michael. Unfortunately, standard interrogation methods had failed to get him talking, so more subtle methods were needed.

[edit] Prison

The team was sent into the prison under orders to gain Michael's confidence and get him to reveal the location of his associate. Roles were assigned as follows.

  • David was sent in as a convicted arsonist.
  • Jon was sent in as a pick pocket.
  • Patrick was asigned as a new doctor in the prison.
  • Milton was acting as a new guard.
  • Jannas remained on the outside, but was given access to the security systems in the prison, alowing him to control much of it remotely.

After gaining Michaels trust by assisting him in a brawl, David and Jon promised Michael that they had friends on the outside who could help them too escape. This was, of course true!

Patrick assisted in the prison break by arranging for an outbreak of cholera, creating a medical emergency. With the on-site facilities overwhelmed, the prison governor agreed to move sick inmates out to civilian facilities under guard.

Under the confusion, the team assured that David, Jon and Michael were moved out in an ambulance guarded by Milton. Oddly, they all escaped.

The three escapees then made a run for it and intimidated one of Michael's contacts into giving them a ship in order to escape from Mars. The Martian law enforcement agencies were instructed to remain sluggish in their pursuit.

[edit] The Duck's Foot

While Michael was leading his new 'friends' to Dr. Crystal, the rest of the team was organising a RAM force to follow at a discrete distance. The powers that be provided them with a 150 ton light destroyer known as the Praetorian, a ship with enough speed to travel quickly and the firepower to put down most opposition.

Its transpired that Dr. Chrystal had been hiding out in the Belter Anarchy on an asteroid that once served as a pub called the Duck's Foot. Chrystal had converted it to a laboratory to perfect his device. The device in question was large machine capable of generate a protective force field around a building, ship or even a larger structure should sufficient power be available.

Indeed, it seemed that Chrystal had been very busy, because he had already arranged to sell his field generator to the Sun Kings of Mercury. The Mercurian fleet was already on its way to collect, and likely to arrive before the RAM ship. Or at least it might have done, had Milton not decided to crank up the ship's motors to just a tad past the safe levels.

Jannas also arranged to transmit a virus to the Duck's Foot, under the disguise of a pornographic advert. Once it arrived, Jon opened it immediately and infected the asteroid's computer system, taking down most of its operating systems and leaving the interior in total darkness.

During the confusion that followed violence broke out and left David and Jon fleeing for their lives from Chrystal's heavies. They were forced to barricade themselves in the engine room in order to survive.

Attempts to negotiate with the Mercurians proved futile and more fighting was seen, this time between the three smaller Mercurian ships and the Praetorian. Martian firepower proved to be superior, but when the Mercurians realised that they could not obtain the device, they decided to try to destroy the asteroid and everything on it.

They came very close to succeeding, rupturing the side and allowing the air to escape before the Praetorian destroyed the last Mercurian vessel. During the confusion, Dr. Chrystal and his allies stole the ship that David and Jon had arrived on and escaped.

As it turned out the field generator had been damaged, but it has been taken back to Mars to be studied by RAM loyal scientist in the hope of repairing or replicating the device. Dr. Chrystal is still at large, and is considered a threat.
