New demands made on the group's memories

OK. New project for our collective memories to have a go at. I’ve finally found a format I’m happy with for a new set of spellbook sheets for Ed’s campaign (to include the new spells Andy and Geoff picked last meet-up but one). At the same time I decided to update the magic item sheets to include the new bits some of us have picked up since then. I also thought it might be cool to include a section on there about the history of the items, where our characters picked them up, what they look like and so on. Make them more than just tools, and more like the treasured relics magic items are in fantasy books.

OK, I’ll admit it. It is a mad idea, but that doesn’t stop it being a good one.

Here are the items that I don’t remember where they came from and could do with some help with. If none of us can remember where things come from then we can just come up with a cool sounding description. We only need a short paragraph by the way. No essays please…

Hawk

  • Dust of Disappearance
  • Dust of Appearance
  • Dust of Sneezing and Choking
  • Dust of Tracelessness
  • Dust of Wellbeing – In the case of all the dusts I do remember that Ed just gave you these to start with when you joined the campaign. All I need here is a ‘retro-continuity’ shift, a bit of new back story to say where they came from.

Noman

  • Longsword +2 – A name for this would be good, either its original name or what Noman calls it…

I rather like the idea of this being an ancient Elven, or even Irda, weapon, that is steeped in great myth & legend. And Noman just uses it as a secondry weapon to his mundane two handed sword. I'll come up with some suitably mythic name that Noman can mispronounce in some humerous fashion. He's had it for ages, in the early stages of Undermountain I think.

  • Body Shield +1 – A description of what emblem it carries would be good

My first magic item I think (Aquired around the same time as the porridge spoon, if I recall) As its primary purpose is defense against Ettin, I think some sort of two headed animal would be appropriate as an emblem. Eagles look good with two heads, I'll go with that. Due to its varrying degrees of defense against giant types with Ettin being the top beast I figure that it was made to combat a great Ettin warlord who led an army of giants on swathe of destruction during the early post-cataclysm days.

  • Tigerbane – We were given it in Ravenloft to go Rakshasa hunting, but by whom?

Your guess is as good as mine. Hopefully Ed has something in his notes...

  • Saw of Mighty Cutting

This may well have been my only recent acquisition (other then the gnome skull-gas-mask) I think I got it shortly before Kobold Masacre II (at the gnome plane crash site) I'm pretty sure it was described as looking quite mundane.

  • Fire Hammer

I think I got this in Ravenloft right before Noman died. Though its not evil so as Andrew said about one of his items it was probably brought there from a random plane. I've imagined it having a flame decal embossed on its head. I think its been used once in combat. I keep it around mainly as a novely cigar lighter...

Noman really is not one to rely on magic, is he..?

Schallat

  • Dagger +1 – Again, a name would be cooler than just Dagger +1
  • I can help here. The dagger wasn't found at all, but was rather given to me as a reward forcompleting a quest - I think it might have been the one in which he found the ring of hideous misfortune, or perhaps earlier. In any event, it isn't just a dagger - its a sacrifical weapon sanctified to Chislev (or one of his aspects, probably Chezlarn the destroyer, considering the number of sentient lifes its taken. Call it Chezlarn's Tooth, if you like.
  • Ring of Protection +1
  • I've had this for a long time... I might even have found it during the first 24 hour, down in the undermountain. As with most jewely that Schallat wears its a little ugly and tarnished. Its made from copper and has turned green
  • Incense of Meditation
  • I really should use these... It's not doing any good sat in my back pack. It's a one shot item, so propably not worth too much effort. I forget where I picked it up.
  • Horn of Valhalla
  • Tremble before my mighty second level berserkers. Once a weak. Another old favorite so old I've forgotten its origin. I imagine it to be made from ivory and bound in brass. (Craig - I'm pretty sure you had it in Undermountain, you might have aquired it early on in the 24 hour, or maybe just beforehand.)
  • Cloak of Protection
  • More recent.. I think I found it in ravenloft, although seeing as its not cursed it probably wasn't made there. For interest, lets say it came from some world no-ones ever heard of. There's a coat of arms on it and a motto embroided across the bottom, but no-one can understand either.
  • Trident – It’s the closest thing we have to a signature magic item in the campaign. We must be able to remember where it came from…
  • Easy! This was most definitely the 24 hour, right at the bottom of the undermountain, after we had killed the demon angomaise. It was part of its treasure hoard. Incidently, although its a +2 weapon now, it was only +1 when I found it, and it used to become torpid after using any of its powers - even flight, for which it has become so famous. Like most intelligent weapons, it boasts of it power and worth, but it seem that the original creature of the trident considered it a failure, because little record of it exists before Schallat dug it up. It doesn't even have a proper name - just trident. It was chislev himself that increased its powers... or maybe Chezlarn, because it was driven mad shortly afterwards and aquired a murderus rage. Certain observers think this was a sign of Chislev's favour of Schallat. Other think that perhaps the trident was created to surve chislev, which is why it tolerates being used by Schallat, despite being of a different alignment. Given that it was prophetic visions sent by his god that drove Schallat into the Undermountain all those years ago, and he just 'happened' to stumble across the trident... well, perhaps Chislev had things on his mind other then Angomaise, who couldn't have been that mighty if a bunch of inexperienced adventures managed to deal with him. Certain groups think that finding the trident was the result that Chislev wanted. The trident itself doesn't answer questions about what it experienced when being empowered. Often it claims not to remember, as with it recent experience in ravenloft. Do we believe it though?

Smith

  • Ring of Healing
  • If i Rember right this came out of a tomb in Revon loft. When i found it it was still on the last owners hand although he had been dead for a long time. Not a good ad for a healing ring p.s. i can't remove this ring.
  • Feather Token
  • Started play with it probly a gift from the church so i would go away (and hope fully wouldn't come back this time).
  • Ever-Smoking Bottle – I seem to recall you started the campaign with this one. as above
  • Potion of Sweet Water
  • as above but probly a Sutly joke.
  • Weaponeater
  • i wasn't playing smith when he found this all i know is that it was found in ravenloft andy say it was part of a hord? giving this weapon a name seems wasted full as smith has only very rarly used it. as for its intelligence smith vest is probly more aware. jew to its ample native life. also it is being used by talask at the mo.
  • other items of note
  • Smiths moldy leather cape. this was in the same tome as smith ring and was the 1st item that he found althogh non magical smith is very fond of it. un-less you count the neer legendarey stink that comes from it.
  • Smith 2 handed mace. This weapon has kept smith alive all though the minator wars and is the only thing that smith cares for after the death of his sister. he has named it after her in order to smite some justis for her.

Peregrine

  • Figurine of Wondrous Power – Did I start the campaign with Nygar or did he come later? He was definitely with us during part of Pez’s first visit to Ravenloft.
  • Lenses of Detection

Cheers guys. Much appreciated.

This is a fantastic idea, well done chaps! Will add some stuff to this when I get chance.
