Pyrus Firehand

Pyrus never knew his father. In the wars that saw the end of Amarchnesti many elves fled eastwards to the more welcoming land of Bissel. Others though made the mistake of fleeing south into Thenol. One party of elves that made that mistake was set upon by raiders led by a red-robed wizard. The male elves were butchered and the women raped. Pyrus’ mother was one of them and the only one to escape, sneaking away in the dead of night. Eventually she made it to Bissel and settled in Bissel City. It was only when she made it here that she discovered that her terrible ordeal had left her pregnant with the red wizard’s child.

Pyrus, despite the circumstances of his conception, was loved by his mother and grew up as a normal child. It was only in his teenage years that the pyromania that was to influence his life so much began to surface. When his actions caused the destruction of a tavern he was arrested and expected to be jailed. Instead he was released into the custody of a passing wizard who took him in as an apprentice. Much of the time though Pyrus was left at the wizard’s town house on his own as his master travelled elsewhere. Pyrus turned out to have a gift for fire magic which pleased him immensely.

Eventually Pyrus began to feel the urge to use his magic for good. He had heard that the Heroes of the Vale had recently departed on a quest to reunite five swords belonging to the barbarian tribes. Seeing the resurgence of the barbarians as threatening the minotaurs who had dispossessed his mother he set off after them and was welcomed as the party had recently lost some of its members. Sadly Pyrus never made it to the end of the quest as he was slain by a wyvern, its poisoned tail impaling the impetuous mage.

"There are two things that make me wonder about Pyrus, from what Hank and Schallat have told me about him. It’s possible his father might have been a Flamerider, one of the elemental families related to the Airriders. I also wonder if his teacher was the Mage of the Vale in the days before he left. There are indications in his papers that he may have owned property in Bissel City, and that he did plan to train an apprentice there."
