The missing sixth stat
From RPGwiki
THis relates to both The Descendants of Grundy and the Citizens of the Free State Of Antarctica . Neither the undead nor constructs have a con score. If we intend to allow either of these races for pcs this presents a problem, because it is usual to roll up all six stats then choice a species.
I suggest that we introduce a sixth score for both of these races. In the case of the golems, my idea would be a tech score. Rather than representing how good they are with technology, as in Buck Rogers, it represents the quality of the components used to make them.
It's usual for races to have fixed advantage, but instead the golems have a list from which they can choice a certain number. Those with a higher tech score get more. So they might get 4 + tech bonus racial advantages, for example.
For the undead, I would suggest they have vitality instead. While its true that the undead to not physically grow tied, they are often lacking in youthfull enthusiasm. Undead with a low vitality score are inclined towards long periods of inactivity and have trouble adapting to changing situations. They also have little patients for dealing with fickle mortals who don't understand why they are prepared to stand around in cold, dark tomb for a thousand years. Doing. Absolutely. Nothing. Those with a better vitality take more interest in the outside world, keep track of their descedents are are morelikely to act spontaneously.
Vitality would effect the undeads turn resistance, so 3rd level undead with vitality 14 (+2) would turn as if 5th level. It's bonus would also be added to fortitude saves. Andy 14:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. And I like the customisable nature of Grundys. I reckon I can come up with a fair few ideas for that.--Alex 17:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Geoff has currently got The Descendants of Grundy split into two types - civilian and battle class. These optional racial traits might make the distinction irrelivant - being one or the other is just a matter of choising appropriate traits. Of course, other people, and possibly the golems themselves, may still think of them in that way.
In any event, I'll wait and see what Geoff thinks of that idea. Andy 16:04, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Geoff seems ok about the idea, so start the suggestions pouring in. I've put down a few. Andy 15:51, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Optional Upgrades for Grundians
- Natural Armour: +3 natural AC.
- Port: Allows the golem to connect to computers and the like.
- Sturdy Construction: Treat fortitude as a favoured save for their construct levels. For 2HD, the bonus increases from +0 to +3.
- Encyclopidic softwear: A broad data base, but not very deep. As bardic knowledge, using construct level. This gives a bonus of 2+int bonus. This stacks with class levels that grant bardic knowledge.
- Reference Libary software: Rather more specific than above. Grants a +2 bonus on two knowledge skills. This bonus can be taken multiple times for bor bonuses.
- Inbuilt Weapon: Has one weapon built, either melee or firearms. Gains relevent proficiency for free. Ammo must be supplied in the normal way. Weapon is considered masterwork.
- Inbuilt Tools: Has the tools for a craft skill built in. Considered masterwork.
