Wells, Jonathon
From RPGwiki
Jonathon Wells is the youngest child and only son of Robert Wells, a senior RAM politician. Following periodic appraisals of Jonathon's development throughout his childhood it was indicated that on top of his remarkable agility he shares many of the mental qualities of his father – an above average intellect, strong social skills and a quick wit. It was expected that much like his two sisters he would follow in his fathers footsteps, and he was therefore given the best education money could buy.
He took to it exceedingly well, at least in the areas that held his interest. Unfortunately (at least in his fathers eyes) politics was not one of the areas that interested Jonathon, he did enjoy the subject of history overall but the main focus of his studies was media history not political history, and he wrote his thesis on one area that held a special interest for him - the history of the near-dead art of stage & close up magic.
After graduating, Jonathon went through several jobs in the history field, but a he got bored easily and could live comfortably off the funds his father supplied so he never held on to them long, and started pursuing jobs performing close up magic in small clubs and casinos until he had all but given up on being a historian.
After a huge argument with his father over how he was wasting his life Robert cut off Jonathon’s funds, and after having let down so many history agencies in the past Jonathon found it difficult to get a full time job in that field. He was just scraping by on what he had left of his savings, along with money he got from his magic performances, but these savings weren’t going to last forever and when they ran out he couldn't live off the money from his performances alone.
He had already moved to a smaller apartment, had given up most of his less treasured luxuries and was worrying about what other sacrifices he would have to make when he received a call from his uncle Jack.
Jonathon got on well with his fathers brother (a high-ranking Internal Security officer), in part due to his closeness with his cousin through their shared interest in history. As such Jack had been to see Jonathon perform on a number of occasions. He had often thought that though his background may be unconventional, many of Jonathon’s skills could be transferable to the investigation business, and had offered Jonathon a job before now, which Jonathon had declined. However as he had become involved in setting up a new roving investative branch, and right now Jonathon might jump at the opportunity, he asked again.
Jonathon was indeed desperate for a job that wouldn’t bore him by this point (having only aquired a low payed administrative postion) and one that paid well enough to return to something close to the lifestyle he was accustomed to would be a bonus. Whilst he still wasn’t entirely convinced that it was the career for him he was tempted to take the offer and see how it panned out.
Before signing up he got in touch with his old university roommate, Patrick Lowell, a newly graduated medical student who always had a fascination with criminology. This was just the sort of job Patrick was after, and with his old friend also joining the team Jonathon made his mind up and signed up.
